As no one else has mentioned this I thought it is worth pointing out. When seeking references for employment or support in a business venture among other things, the person asked may refuse to provide a reference, and will usually do that if they have nothing particularly supportive to offer the applicant. But sometimes a reference may not be quite what the applicant needs. That particular reference can be left out of a résumé that is just how it is done. There is nothing dodgy about selecting the best references for your purpose from those you have on hand. I understand from what I have read that someone has vetted the application for bus driver, then checked back to the parent who wrote shall we say a less favourable reference and now that has become part of the Carenne School gossip. There is no requirement which insist an applicant must provide an unfavourable reference.
Writing an unfavourable reference is generally considered vindictive and a waste of your time. If you consider the laws of defamation it should prevent a prudent person from providing a reference to a third party which may be challenged as defamatory and the applicant is certainly not going to use it if it contains unfavourable references to the applicant’s ability or personal values. Corporations, prudent employers and people generally are too smart to write bad references because they do not want to take the risk, win or lose it cost a lot of money to fight a defamation action should the written information get “out “ and be identified as slanderous. Be assured DET legal people among others understand these things. That is why they have told their employees to stay off this string because so much of what we are collating along with the electronic links to those computers where it is generated may be actionable.

As usual with these people they assumed because there wasn't a reference from every parent in the application that the parent mustn't like the driver. For a driver to get 5/6 parents to write a reference surely proves something to them.

I suppose that is why the student was left in the pig pen for 90% of his time at school because he was extremely difficult. The child was probably TRAUMATIZED from what was done to him.
