Over the weekend, the rear window of the vehicle was smashed and on Monday, Carenne Support bus coordinator Dave Graham was forced to place a plastic sheet over the window and tape it on after Mary Housler refused to confirm if the damage was covered by insurance or if Carenne Support would pay for it to be repaired.
Students were driven around in the vehicle by Mark Sealey with the rear window missing and unsealed, exposing them to deadly fumes. Under guidelines for the Special Needs Transport Service, Carenne Support may only use a vehicle which is roadworthy and must have sufficient backup vehicles to cover any issues which may arise with the normal vehicle. Carenne Support has no backup vehicles.The incident shows how Carenne Support puts profit before the safety of students.
Student's were never driven around while the window was broken. Student's were never exposed to fumes at any time. The reason the covering was placed there was to protect the vehicle. A rental bus was hired as is part of our backup plan which has been approved by DEC. The window has since been repaired.

ReplyDeleteThe bus was used to transport one student, other arrangements were made for the students on the bus. I would hardly think a small trip would expose them to exhaust fumes so wake up to your fucking selves.
I had nothing to do with the window not being replaced straight away, we had to wait for the window to be shipped to Bathurst.
We have an arrangement with Bathurst Community Transport Group for wheelchair vehicles. In this case it was not required. The only time we had an issue was when the buses, that Clancy Ford were unable to fix went to Melbourne to be repaired.

At that school in suttor street the kids were exposed to particularly noxious chemical fumes which caused one child to be rushed to hospital after collapsing and turning GREEN, the entire infant block had to be evacuated and staff were ill. This was stated as not being any sort of problem! Childern must NEVER be exposed to poisonous fumes and chemicals for ANY REASON WHATSOEVER but Jodeen jackson yelled that a tiny piece of graffiti was more dangerous to the children than toxic chemical fumes were. What an imbecile eh?

They claimed to not at that time to have the experience to fix Careene's vehicles becuse there were issues of fixing the wheelchair modifications. We always gone to a repected place for any repairs to Careene's vehicles. We have never done anything on the cheap and the vehicles have never gone to Sydney for repairs.

ReplyDeleteI am letting you know that there was a horrible accident today where Ros Luther and Angie Cranston were killed in an accident on the Mitchell Highway near Wellington.
Six students were also injured in the accident.
The Police advise that an accident involving the Carenne bus occurred at 5:30 PM when it left the road and struck a tree.
I will keep the school community updated and will send home a note tomorrow on how to access crisis counselling.

ReplyDeleteI had a nice talk with someone at the ICAC today who told me there are ongoing investigations into the problems at Carenne and that they are pushing for an inquiry but are facing stiff opposition from Carol McDiamond and Greg Prior.
ReplyDeleteI told them of the allegations about Interchange and was told that they knew nothing of them but to let the auditor general's office know. I called the auditor general and was told that there is a current investigation involving Interchange and that any information people have should be directed to them.

ReplyDeleteThe Department has ordered Carenne School not to allow Melinda Gavin's daughter and Geoff Salmon's son to stay for another year as the Department got complaints from other parents who want there children to stay for another year and apparently they had more compelling reasons than Melinda Gavin and Geoff Salmon. Its understood Neal Moon made a submission proposing an additional class supported by Peter Harvey and regional director however it was rejected by the department who do not want to give Carenne an additional teacher because of the ongoing issues with Carenne.
Apparently the Department is concerned about the idea because there is potential for complaints from parents about child protection issues arising form the fact of older students in the school. The Department also is concerned its going to be the begging of large numbers of students staying on leading to an additional class at Carenne which the Department does not wish to pay for.
It's understood Peter Harvey and Neal Moon are not happy with this directive which came from Human resources and are taking the matter to Greg Prior.
Also JIRT and EPAC were at the school today investigating Adam Ryan regarding Ashley Elphick and Melinda Gavin over an assault on a student.
The ICAC, DOCS and EPAC want to hear about problems at Carenne and they want further complaints of problems so they can take action.
The ICAC are going to proceed to an inquiry however there trying to get DEC to agree as it will be difficult to prove the problems without there assistance. Greg Prior though is trying to get rid of Carol McDiamond with Paul Stirling to take her job.

There at least trying, they have been investigating for years but they have to prove on the balance of probabilities that the staff engaged in misconduct to fire them. Otherwise the staff will run off to the Industrial Relations Commission claiming unfair dismissal.

ReplyDeleteI understand the Department has been contacting law firms who would Carenne on a no win no fee basis as the Department is not allowed to fund legal proceedings for defamation and it has done a deal with Cox West lawyers that it will given them significant legal work if it does this case on a no win no fee basis. I understand a number of Carenne’s staff have signed up. The Department legal services branch has already done the preliminary work by it having subpoenaed details of IP addresses from Blogger.
It is understood the Department has completed its investigation into Peter Harvey who has been suspended from duty for ignoring the directions from ICAC to suspend Simonee Russell.

ReplyDeleteIt is understood that Geoff Salmon and Melinda Gavin is recieving compensation from the Department in the amount of $5,000 for a breach of there privacy namely the reports on this blog the reports there children would be staying at Carenne next year. The Department Legal services branch aaccepted the fact that Geoff Salmon and Melinda Gavin did not tell anyone about these arrangements and therefore there would of been a leak from Carenne's staff making the Department liable under the Privacy and Personal Information Act.
An interesting development has occured today Carenne Support has been allocated funding from ADHC to provide respite care and post school options. It is understood that Interchange will no longer exist from 2012 as its funding is being given to Carenne Support.

ReplyDeleteThis is in addition to them being given provider status as a provider of Transition to Work program and Community Participation Program which takes effect from the start of 2012. All students leaving Careene School this year will be clients of Careene Support if they have been successful in there application for the Transition to Work program and Community Participation Program. They will not be allowed to choose there own provider under a deal done with ADHC. The only way they can chose another provider is if they move away from the Bathurst area.
Bullshit. Carenne Support will do respite from 2013. It's why Auld and Ramsay were on the board to give information to Carenne Support.

Also if you want to put your child in your local mainstream school that can be arranged and significant aid time for your child will be available as well as Assisted Student Transport
Also I note there are vacancies as well at two special schools one is located at Anson Street School in Orange and the other is Holman Place School in Cowra. Your child will receive assisted student travel if you move your child to these schools.
I suggest that you make arrangements to remove your child from Carenne School if you are making negative comments about Carenne or its employees. Otherwise bad things may happen to your child or I may take steps to expel your child from Carenne which will in turn leave the decision as to where they will go at the Department’s discretion. Just because your child has a disabilty does not mean I can not expel them. I am also entitled to expel them for behaviour which is caused by there disabilty as if you do any research on the issue you will find there is a high court case called Purvis v New South Wales which found that it is not disabilty discrimination to expell for bad behaviour
I have also spoken to the Department and I am within my rights to remove a child from Carenne should there parents be involved in making negative comments about Carenne as it would be inappropriate for the school to educate your child in those circumstances.I will also issue with a notice prohibiting you entering the school ground
