A medical incident on Carenne Support's Lithgow bus driven by Dave Graham and escorted by Robyn Graham last week highlighted serious issues with how Carenne Support trains its drivers and escorts. The duo were caught completely by surprise when a student had a seizure on the bus last Wednesday, not knowing the correct way to deal with the issue.
According to Barracus, Robyn Graham told her that she didn't know what to do so left the student strapped to the seat while they had a fit. She said she "watched the child turn blue" and called the ambulance, which Dave Graham rushed to meet. Barracus told Carenne Gate this was not the proper way to handle the situation, which came down to Mr and Mrs Graham not being properly trained by Carenne Support.
When the incident was raised with Neil Moon, Barracus was told to keep their mouth shut and act as though it never happened.
Investigations by Carenne Gate can reveal that the principal and school staff are responsible for ensuring that bus staff have proper information and training to deal with such situations and all drivers and escorts should have health care plans detailing what to do in certain situations. According to Barracus and Save Carenne, Neil Moon has never made this information available.
When approached by Save Carenne, Catherine Naismith refused to deal with the complaint, further showing her complete lack of regard for the safety of disabled students being transported under the assisted travel program.

ReplyDeleteThe correct procedure under DEC Policy is to call an ambulance when ever a student has seizure and that was followed.
ReplyDeleteThe procedure is to follow the instructions of the 000 ambulance operator. They were specifically advised not to move the student or touch the student in this situation by the ambulance operator.
The student had an individual health care plan and this was followed to the letter.
Catherine Naismith refused to deal with the complaint as is her right under Department policy and had the power to do so by reason of the delegation powers that she has.
She chose not to investigate as initial inquiries showed there were no grounds for a complaint.
It is because she is alleged to have breached her contract and there is an allegation of fraudulent claims and the complaint has been assessed as not being vexatious, frivolous, malicious unlike all the other complaints that are made concerning Assisted Travel and Carenne.
ReplyDeleteIt is quite frankly none of your business why Cheryl Chaplin is being investigated as it could prejudice the investigation or any legal proceedings taken by the Department or police concerning this matter.
Cheryl Chaplin is entitled to the presumption of innocence and we should allow the proper process to take its course.
If it is possible that the Department can release information I suspect the Department will at the appropriate time.
Absolutely incorrect as always. The correct procedure was to leave the student in the seat while the seizure was occurring before then placing them in the recovery position this was not done.
ReplyDeleteIf the driver and escort had a copy of the health care plan this would have been followed. Unfortunately, Neil Moon is too incompetent to provide the plan to drivers and escorts.
Isn't it amazing that you have a complaint made about Cheryl using an unapproved aboriginal man, who happens to be highly regarded in the community that is investigated while complaints made about using mentally unstable people, criminals and harassment of students isn't dealt with.

Bronwyn Mackay was deemed guilty of the most heinous criminal behaviour and sacked out of hand AFTER Toni Mcdonald called Police and lied to them so they'd remove her from Bathurst West school forcibly. There was no speeding of the vehicle at all. This is a complete lie and I demand evidence to prove the vehicle was speeding.
The jerking did not stop until the ambualnce arrived that is why the student remained in the car seat with seat bealt on as the sezuire was continuing right up until the ambulance arrived.
